Who We Are

DPO Privacy Centre (East Africa) is a not-for-profit organisation, limited by guarantee, established to enhance a data protection and privacy culture across East Africa.

We sensed there would be a great deal of work to do in helping organisations understand and apply the new data protection laws across the region. We had a strong desire to reduce confusion and ease anxiety, while supporting wider public awareness and a shift in mindset towards embracing these laws.

As a team of young professionals, we have dedicated time building high-level expertise in this field, which we now use to develop services that help people understand data protection and comply with the data protection frameworks in their respective countries with ease. In the process, we have built a community of data protection practitioners, all sharing the goal of making data protection easy.

Our work has grown from strength to strength since our inception, establishing us as one of the leading providers of data protection guidance and support in East Africa.

Income generated through our advisory, training and review services helps sustain our wider public-interest work, including awareness campaigns, research, and community outreach activities across the region that do not generate revenue on their own.
