How must personal health data be handled? The rapid digitisation of healthcare systems in Uganda has significantly improved access, efficiency and management of health data. Despite these developments, there have been emerging concerns about risks to the privacy and confidentiality of sensitive patient data. In this article, our team examines the legal framework governing the processing of patient data in Uganda, explores the key legal obligations of key stakeholders, patient rights and highlights regional enforcement developments. It also proposes recommendations for improving the protection of patients' personal data in Uganda.

A Commentary on the PDPO Decision of Adlegal v Whatsapp and Meta — 25th Feb 2026

The Big Tech Accountability (BTA) Summit
The inaugural Big Tech Accountability (BTA) Summit, convened by Adlegal International, is happening on 30th June–31st July 2026 at Mestil Hotel and Residences in Kampala, Uganda. The summit brings together professionals from across the continent and globe, centring discussions on data protection and privacy, and competition law regarding Big Tech companies. Several speakers have already been confirmed, and DPO Privacy Centre (East Africa) will be joining other partners as a supporting institution. Other partners include DataVara Tech Solutions, Africa Digital Rights' Hub, CIO-CXO Digital Leadership Forum, Data Privacy Lawyers Association of Nigeria (DPLAN), ALBA Advocates and Kentaro Mugerwa and Co. Advocates.
